Our approach to Learning

The staff at St James' Church of England Junior School have worked incredibily hard to develop an exciting and engaging curriculum. Progress is clearly evident in our core subjects with excellent feedback from students and a consistent pattern of our students performing significantly above national and Copeland averages (results) Subject leaders have also worked hard to use student feedback and monitoring tasks to help shape their respective subjects. We use a variety of carefully chosen schemes to ensure that learning is memorable and engaging and knowledge is retained. Our gallery pages show previous galleries of learning, with School Dojo now used as our current preference of sharing learning jorneys with parents.

Staff training has been key in reshaping our curriculum. Key training in establishing our collaborative, metacognitive approach to learning called 'Lear 2 learn' is summarised belwo. Further impactful training has included engagement in our local Maths Hub to sustain our approach to Maths Mastery, along with special training in effective subject leadership.
