Curriculum

All staff have worked hard in developing an engaging, broad and balanced curriculum over the last few years.  Education is ever-evolving and we have continually reflected on our delivery to ensure that children acquire the skills and knowledge they need to prepare them for the next stage of their education and for life in Modern Britain. Throughout this journey in developing our curriculum, we have been ever outward looking and sought training from many consultants and trainers from all over the country to come to us here at St James to help us shape our approach to meet the needs of our pupils.  Staff here are passionate to give the very best education to children we deeply care about, and we are proud to share our approach with you.

The intention of our curriculum at St James’ C of E Junior School is to develop a life-long love of learning through varied and memorable learning experiences.  We aim to develop confident learners through challenging learning tasks; increased dialogue and collaboration; timely feedback allowing pupils to regulate their thinking; and a relentless focus on the learner.  The pupil is central to all of our decision-making and we value the importance of developing spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding with equal importance to academic achievement.  Our children are well behaved, kind and respectful to all in the school and give their all each and every day.  After all, this is ‘The St James’ Way’

Our curriculum development is always carefully designed to ensure coverage and sequential progression. It provides pupils with memorable experiences, from which they can learn and develop a range of transferable skills. We connect well with our community, and recognise the benefits of taking learning outside of the classroom; working closely with industry, local museums, charities and organisations.

All subject leaders work alongside governors in leading regular monitoring activities to help us evaluate and refine our practice.  Moving forward as a school, staff here will continue to work closely together to make sure that our curriculum offers the very best for our pupils

Subject specific plans/overviews can be found on our curriculum pages below. All our topics and themes draw their skills, knowledge and understanding from the National Curriculum. Currciulum Pages illustrate how topics link to National Currciulum Objectives.
