Y3 Poetry Day
Class: Mrs Pickering - Bassenthwaite Year: 2018 - 2019
Together we looked at the traditional poem 'The Land of Counterpane' by Robert Louis Stevenson. Firstly we discussed the key features of the poem and what we could infer from the poem. Secondly we thought about what our land of counterpane might look like, we used blankets to help us imagine we were sick in bed and imagine what toys we would have around us. Next we drew pictures of our lands, before finally writing our own versions of the poem.
My Land of Counterpane by Eva F
When I was sick I lay-a bed,
I had two pillows at my head,
All my toys beside me lay,
To keep me happy through the day.
Right beside me was an owl,
Which made the Llama howl and howl,
The cats on the cover had funny faces,
Then they decided to do races.
So then I needed to be sick,
So I was really very quick,
The Llama was being cute,
So I kicked it with my boot.
I was the giant, great and still,
That sits upon the pillow-hill,
And sees before me, dale and plain,
My pleasant land of counterpane.
