Derwenwater Space and Planets

Class: Mr Carruthers - Derwentwater Year: 2024 - 2025

Another amazing day studying our solar system.  We made scale models of each planet, so they were the correct size in relation to each other.  Then we placed them the correct distance, relatively speaking, away from the Sun (a basketball)..... we even included the astrobelt.  We found that the rocky planets are actually really close to the Sun, relatively speaking, and the gas giants are really far away...especially Mr Carruthers's favourite planet, Neptune!  Neptune was 30 times further away from the Sun (30 AU) than Earth!  Check out the videos and photos.....we came back inside and finished the day by playing planet top trumps which we had made ourselves last week!
