Stone Age Day

Lesson: History

Class: Miss A Pool - Buttermere Year: 2022 - 2023

Yesterday, Butteremere walked down to the Whitehaven harbour youth project for our Stone Age day. We had an action packed day with the children taking part in archery, a scavenger hunt and baking stone age bread. We tried really hard at archery and talked about why stone age people would have needed to hunt and what animals they might have hunted. Next, we headed out onto the harbour for a scavenger hunt. We used maps to locate clues at different places around the harbour, and learnt lots about the animals that might have roamed Whitehaven thousands of years ago. Finally, we made our bread and cooked it on a fire, the same way they would have in the Stone Age. Although, we did have hot chocolate to drink and nutella on our bread, which might not have been around in the Stone Age! The children really impressed me with their lovely manners and the respect they showed all staff! I had a brilliant day and I hope the children did too!
