Values

Psalm 119v105 : Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path

Christian Vision

With exploring minds and faith, we grow and learn together. All here follow ‘The St James Way: Be Kind, Be Respectful, Give Your All’ which is rooted in the Christian Values of Peace, Compassion, Friendship, Forgiveness, Thankfulness and Endurance. Using Psalm 119v105 we use ‘Your Word’ as a light to guide children on their paths through life.

Christian Values

At St James' C of E Junior School, our Christian Values are at the heart of everything we do. Children develop a good understanding of key bible teachings which highlight the value as well as other stories, poems and artwork. Within each value, we have a linked bible story which children learn about and reflect on how this teaching demonstrated the values. Children have opportunities to plan, prepare and lead worship for the whole school through assemblies.

The values we explore and strive to live by are:

We believe these values are empowering our pupils to develop their spirituality and guiding them in personal development as effective learners and good citizens. For more information please view our Values Powerpoint for Parents.

As a school, we focus on a different Christian value each half term. To further strengthen our home – school links we will upload resources with lots of fun activities that the family can do together, and ideas to start discussions about the value at home with children. Have fun!

Collective Worship

Whether it be in St James' Church, St Nicholas Church, in our school hall or classrooms; or even on top of Latrigg Fell, all here value the time together in worship. Even during times of separation caused by covid, we came together daily online.

As well as special worships to mark key events in the church calendar, we also gather to discuss and reflect on our 6 Christian Values. As with all things here, children are fully involved in our worship routines and enjoy the time engaging with videos, photographs, song, prayer and drama to help shape their thinking. The views of all children are valued and difference is recognised and celebrated. Our worship and reflection time is well supported by clergy of St James' Church who lead this time in fortnightly gatherings and annual workshops. Worship is enhanced with invited visitors to the school and children also enjoy leading the worship time.

For further guidance in what worship looks like please read our Collective Worship Policy below.
