Headteacher's Welcome

At St James' Church of England Junior School we pride ourselves on creating a nurturing atmosphere, where our children are given varied and engaging opportunities to grow as a whole person. Believing in the unique individuality of every child, we endeavour to provide each child with the knowledge and skills to confidently work towards their full potential.

Although children’s academic success is very important to us, we firmly believe in developing the whole child and with our exploring minds, and faith; we grow and learn together.  Learning is memorable at St James'; a relentless focus on the learner helps our skilled staff plan diverse and rich activities that engage children in a way that makes learning stick. We aim to provide a strong foundation for every child's future, equipping them with a range of transferable skills and a life-long love of learning.

Our children here follow ‘The St James’ Way’.  This is an approach, designed by the children but followed by both students and staff together. Our mantra of ‘Be Kind, Be Respectful, and Give Your All’ is clear in every lesson and every interaction. We value the importance of developing our spiritual, moral, social and cultural understandings with carefully planned links to develop our awareness of ourselves, our behaviours and our impact on the world around us and beyond.   We work closely with our local parish in developing our Christian values of friendship, peace, forgiveness, thankfulness, compassion and endurance, and our children here are a delight to work with.

Positive partnerships with the local community, especially our colleagues from our feeder Infant School and St James’ Parish Church, are key to our children's success and we work hard to ensure families feel informed and involved in their children's learning. The Governing body, which is made up from representatives from the parents, school, church and local community, meet regularly to support and challenge the school’s performance. We strive to provide an enriched school experience outside of normal school hours that supports character and wider development.  As well as enriching sporting, drama, STEM, animation, and adventure activities, we also have excellent facilities for ‘early bird’ and after school sessions.

Please contact the school office if you would like to make an appointment for a visit to our school.

We look forward to meeting you.
