How are shadows formed?

Lesson: Science

Class: Mrs Pickering - Bassenthwaite Year: 2019 - 2020

This afternoon Class 1 starting learning about their new topic light, they explored how shadows are formed by using opaque card to make a puppet. Using a torch they made a shadow against the walls in the classroom and found out that the shadow from their puppet got larger if they moved it closer to the torch and smaller if they moved it further away from the torch. They also found shadows in the classroom and discussed the difference between opaque and transparent objects. We talked about light travelling in straight lines and the speed that light travels from the earth to the moon.
